IB Extended Essay Resources

The models below are excellent examples for understanding the nature and requirements of the Extended Essay.

1.   A good place to start

Kingshurst City Technology College (Birmingham, UK)

Impressive website with links to pages to help with research, bibliographies, criteria etc. Don’t miss this inside link at the bottom of the criteria page. Written with the same dry wit and humor found on BBC comedies. Look at the page on plagiarism.

2.   Use the Power Point presentation to clarify research and writing criteria

Norre  Gymnasium (Denmark) Scroll down to the end of the page where you see: “Information 2003-05 A Power Point presentation by Lisa Rasmussen of important steps in the preparation work of the Extended Essay: Click on Extended Essay Presentation on that page.”

3.   For print material the Thailand site is very clear.

Ruamrudee International School (Thailand)

Click on the link for the Extended Essay and then on the Extended Essay Booklet.

4.  Inspiration for topics.

Oakham School (United Kingdom)

For ideas, this site provides a list of recent EE titles chosen by IB students at Oakham. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to access the link.

5.   Extended Essay Abstracts

Abstracts from Lester Pearson College of the Pacific in Victoria , British Columbia , Canada

5.   The Concord Review Sample Essays

Not all of these are EEs since they go beyond the word limit, but all are brilliant examples of what high school scholars can do.
