Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are into the second semester of the school year and we continue to make progress towards our goals for the “new” Annapolis High School. The first semester brought improvements in academic achievement, school wide attendance and student behavior. I thank our parents and the community for their support as everyone realizes that this endeavor cannot be completed without the combined efforts of all stakeholders.
Making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) continues to be our major focus. Annapolis High School provides many opportunities for students to achieve academic success. If your senior needs to make up a course, please sign them up for Twilight School or Evening High School this semester. To make AYP, our seniors must graduate. Please contact your child’s guidance counselor immediately to make arrangements if need be.
School wide Help Days continue to be held on Wednesdays. Panther Prep sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All students, in preparing for their H.S.A.’s are encouraged to attend. Remember, staying after for academic help will earn students entrance into our Panther Café.
Course selections for the 2008-2009 school year will begin in February. Parents, please help us by encouraging your children to take risks and enroll into Advanced Placement (AP) / Honors courses. These classes provide a valuable opportunity to prepare students for college and other secondary opportunities.
Annapolis High School has received positive exposure around the county and metro area in response to our academic achievements. Among our many accomplishments, our math team continues to be the leader among all county high schools. Our school has been recognized by the Washington Post as the 50th rated school on its Challenge Index. Our previous index ranking was 83. Our current ranking places us as 3rd best in the county.
As the warmer weather approaches in the coming weeks we ask for your support by encouraging your children to attend school every day, complete their assignments and follow ALL county policies and school rules.
Again, we can only meet the challenges and be successful if we work together. Please know that our ears and/or doors are always open.
Sincerely,
Donald R. Lilley
