Proud to have been selected as an innovative "best practice"
for presentation at the AASL National Conference
in November 2001 in Indianapolis.

A student with a vision, the principal's support and a father with coffee machines made it possible

A winning idea The Reading Café in the Annapolis High School Media Center has been established as an incentive for students to visit the Library Media Center, to read and to explore literature..The idea was born at a Finance Committee meeting in June, 2000. One thing led to another and someone suggested that we should have a coffee machine. The next moment we were talking about having our own Barnes and Noble in the Media Center. And so the idea was born.

An inviting environment The Cafe offers a comfortable, inviting environment designed to encourage frequent use of the Media Center It features comfortable furniture as well as a coffee machine offering various types of coffee and hot chocolate.  Paperback books, newspapers, and  magazines as well as an excellent collection of fiction and short stories are all available for everyone's reading enjoyment.

The Reading Cafe has transformed the tone of the LMC. It has given the students a place of their own to read and be with friends.
